Baptism is the first and necessary Sacrament to become a Christian. Baptism can be undertaken at any age. Baptism frees us from sin and makes us members of the Christian community. We become sons and daughters of God.
Parents who wish to have their children baptized at Blessed Sacrament must be registered members of the parish. They are expected to be practicing members of the faith by weekly attendance at the Saturday vigil or Sunday liturgy and attending on Holy Days of Obligation. Parents are encouraged to participate in the parish activities and be dedicated to fulfilling a Catholic lifestyle. If this is the couple's first child, they must attend a Baptism class.
Parents seeking to have a child under the age of seven baptized must be registered members of our parish and attend a Baptism Preparation Class.
Please contact Rita Fete at (850) 222-1321 or [email protected] to complete any necessary forms or arrange the Baptism with a priest or deacon.
Choosing the Godparents
Parents should give serious consideration to prospective godparents. Godparents should be chosen primarily for their faith commitment. Their responsibility is joining with the parents and supporting the baptized person in their lifelong Christian commitment. Since the godparents are representatives of the larger Christian Community into which the child is to be baptized, they should be Catholic. At least one of the godparents must be Catholic.
If the Catholic godparent is a member of a Catholic Church other than Blessed Sacrament, a letter from their home parish stating they are registered and in good standing to be sponsors is required. If the Catholic godparent is a registered members of Blessed Sacrament, no additional documentation is required.
